QUESTION:
What is the procedure for getting permission
to use the PVSIII-R in my graduate research? Is
there a cost?
You send us a hard copy of a
brief description of your research, and a request to
use our instrument in your study.
Send to:
The Hardiness Institute, Inc.
4425 Jamboree, Suite 140
Newport Beach, California 92660
Ph: (949) 252 0580
Fx: (949) 252 8087
This request should be on
university letterhead.
Graduate students use our online administration of our
survey through authorization from the Hardiness Institute.
We have no other procedure for scoring your data, such
as a scoring diskette. You collect your data through
hard copy, and input the raw scores yourself. Each time
you input an administration, you get an immediate output
of raw scores on total hardiness, and on commitment,
control, and challenge. Each administration also remains
in your personal online database for your perusal at
any time during your project. We provide you with a
scoring manual that gives you the percentile rank averages
for these raw scores. Please note we do not
give you the scoring algorithms to the test.
We have a manual that provides you with the information
you need to perform the necessary statistics to make
sense of your data. We also have a download function
that permits you to download your data in Excel.
Once you receive permission to use our survey, you send
a check to our institute. We also can do phone
Visa
charges. This requires that you call us with the relevant
information and send a fax or e-mail giving us permission
to charge the agreed upon amount to your charge card.
As soon as we receive payment, we immediately set up
an online account for you and send you all the necessary
documents to proceed. Return to Questions
QUESTION:
Where can I find published reliability and validity
information on the Personal Views SurveyIII-R?
The PVSIII is the 30 best items
of the PVSII. The 18 best items from the PVSIII make
up the PVSIII-R. At this point in time, we can send
you a published book chapter on test reliability and
validity for the PVSII. We are in the process of publishing
an article on the reliability and validity for the PVSIII
and PVSIII-R. The author of the PVSIII is Dr. Salvatore
R. Maddi from the Hardiness Institute. The authors on
the PVSIII-R: Maddi, Salvatore; Khoshaba, Deborah, et

QUESTON: What is
the difference between the HardiSurveyIII-R,
the PVSII, PVSIII, and the PVSIII-R?
As mentioned, the PVSIII consists
of the 30 best items of the PVSII. The 18 best items
from the PVSIII make up the PVSIII-R. At this point
in time, we can send you a published book chapter on
test reliability and validity for the PVSII.The HardiSurvey
III-R is a 65-item test that yields comprehensive information
on a test taker's stress vulnerability factors (stress,
strain and regressive coping), and stress resistance
resources (HardiCoping, HardiAttitudes,
and Hardy Work and Social Support). These total scores
yield a total Wellness Score that predicts a person's
current ability to perform and stay well relative to
the current level of stress vulnerability factors. The
test taker receives a 17 page report describing the
hardiness model for performance and health enhancement
as well as a comprehensive description of h/her personal
score summary. This survey is generally not used for
graduate research due to survey length and cost of administration.
